‘You have to delegate authority.’ In Conversation with Dr Kevin Fong

Dr Kevin Fong spoke with Nick Gold, Managing Director of speaking bureau Speakers Corner, in their latest ‘In Conversation With’ video.

Kevin discusses his experiences of the medical response to Covid-19, and the most valuable lesson he learned from that time: the importance of delegating authority to frontline teams and trusting their expertise.

Kevin, who began his career in astrophysics before becoming a doctor, emphasises the importance of facilitative leadership and cross-industry collaboration, and how humility, empathy, and a willingness to learn are  key factors in building trust within teams. Drawing on the example of the Apollo 11 mission, he also highlights the importance of debriefing in order to effectively respond to future crises.
