Polly Mackenzie is the chief executive of Demos, a cross-party think tank that works to involve the public in policy making. A policy polymath, she is a regular speaker about politics, research, mental health, personal finance, housing and citizenship.
As Director of Policy for Nick Clegg during the coalition government, Polly co-wrote the 2010 coalition programme, and helped secure shared parental leave, the plastic bag charge, investment in schools, and a new focus on mental health.
After leaving government, Polly helped set up the Women’s Equality Party, and went on to found Money and Mental Health, a policy institute dedicated to breaking the link between financial difficulties and mental health problems.
Polly has worked as a journalist and a speechwriter, and is now a regular columnist at Unherd, as well as a regular contributor to the BBC and Sky News.
