Celebrating World Book Day 2024 with Dr Sheila Kanani

World Book Day Jellyfish in Space Sheila Kanani

Thursday 7 March 2024 is World Book Day, a worldwide celebration of books and reading. Each year a range of new titles are produced for only £1/€1.50, alongside a host of activities to promote reading. This year we are excited that Dr Sheila Kanani was invited to write a title, with illustrations by Liz Kay.

Can You Get Jellyfish in Space? is a fantastical journey into the wild and surprising realms of space. Weaving together astronomy, physics and biology, it is sure to inspire space-obsessed and animal-loving kids everywhere.

Sheila took part in Puffin’s World Book Day Story Makers Show, now available to stream for teachers, librarians and home educators. In the show, Sheila introduces her new World Book Day book and gives a sneak peek at some of the interesting facts revealed inside.

On World Book Day itself, Sheila will be part of a live lesson with BBC Teach.

Hosts Maddie Moate and Joe Tasker will be joined by a line-up of incredible authors, including Alex Falase-Koya, space scientist Dr. Sheila Kanani, comedian and author Rosie Jones and official World Book Day illustrator Vivian Truong.

The session will delve deeper into fiction and non-fiction and explore different genres to help design a pop-up library space.

The 30 minute Live Lesson will be available to watch live at 11:00am, 7th March, via BBC Teach on this page and on the CBBC channel.

Can You Get Jellyfish in Space? is published by Puffin. World Book Day £1/€1.50 tokens can be redeemed between 15 February and 31 March 2024.
