Three more books in Marion Todd’s DI Clare Mackay series acquired by Canelo

22/07/2022

We’re thrilled to announce that Canelo have acquired three more books in Scottish crime author Marion Todd‘s acclaimed DI Clare Mackay series, for publication in June 2023 and beyond. World English rights were acquired by Publishing Director Louise Cullen from fiction agent Hannah Weatherill.

Marion’s success began with Bloody Scotland Scottish Debut Crime award-nominated novel See Them Run in 2019 – a title that has now sold more than 100,000 copies – since then, the DI Clare Mackay books have rapidly become a firm favourite with Tartan Noir fans. With the sixth book in the series, Old Bones Lie, recently published to a brilliant reception – including praise from Neil Lancaster, Douglas Skelton and G. R. Halliday – the news of further books will be welcomed by Todd’s eager fanbase of readers and booksellers.

A native of Dundee, Marion Todd studied music and worked for many years as a piano teacher and jobbing accompanist. Now a full-time writer, Marion lives in North-east Fife, overlooking the River Tay. She is a member of the Caledonia Crime Collective founded by several Scottish crime writers to champion crime writing from the region.

Louise Cullen says: ‘Marion is a delight to work with, and an author I not only admire for her talent, but also for her professionalism and commitment to ensuring Scottish-set crime fiction gets the recognition it deserves. I can think of nothing more exciting than the prospect of adding more DI Clare Mackay novels to the Canelo Crime list. We are proud of the achievements for the books so far and see this as a brilliant opportunity to take Marion’s publishing to the next level.’

Marion Todd says: ‘I’m so excited to be continuing the Detective Clare Mackay crime series with Canelo. The whole team have been a dream to work with and I can’t wait to start throwing some more rocks at Clare and her colleagues.’

Hannah Weatherill says: ‘We’re thrilled that Canelo will continue to publish Marion’s brilliant DI Clare Mackay series. Marion has fast become a staple of the Scottish crime scene and, with Canelo’s ambitious plans, we’re sure the series will continue to go from strength to strength.’

The DI Clare Mackay series is published in ebook and paperback by Canelo, in audiobook by WF Howes, and in German by Edition M.
